At the recent Consumer Electronics Show, Chinese optical engine and projector maker Butterfly Technology displayed two LCOS and four DLP optical engines. Butterfly also demonstrated two new DLP projectors. Shown in prototype form, the PEAW002 will be a personal projector that produces 300 ANSI lumens at WXGA (1,280×800) resolution with 1,000:1 contrast ratio. The PFAJ005 is a pico projector that produces 100 ANSI lumens at WVGA (854×480) resolution with 1,000:1 contrast ratio and operates from a 1,600 mAh battery or wall power adapter. The PFAK002 is a personal projector that produces 200 ANSI lumens at SVGA (858×600) resolution with 1,000:1 contrast ratio. Power is supplied by a wall power adapter.
Engine makers like Butterfly are driving projector market trends like smaller optical engines and brighter personal projectors.
